What Can We Do For You?

We provide interior design, training for staff and teachers, transition planning and marketing ideas for developing the Sunday school changes in your church.

Interior Design Services

There are three basic keys to designing your space:

1. Programming
2. Concept Development, and
3. Implementing the Principles and Elements of Design.

Programming is defining the space you need to accomplish the activities in your curriculum. In traditional Sunday school, we design the individual rooms for specific age groups. The activities of each grade varies and so, too, will the space. Perhaps your students may be attending different workshops, hearing one story in many different ways. They may learn the story in workshop environments ranging from art or video, through drama, puppetry, or games, to cooking, worship, geography, even ecology. (And that is only a portion of the possibilities!) Where you put these classrooms or workshops, and how they are configured within your church, is the programming portion of your plan.

Concept Development begins with brainstorming solutions to the design problem. The ideas are drawn up (called schematics) to help you visualize the space plans, traffic patterns, and details. We then specify the furnishings, finishes, equipment, and accessories for every surface of the space and prepare to implement the design.

Applying the Principles and Elements of Design is often an overlooked or under-used step in creating interiors for children's spaces. It is vital to provide a stimulating learning environment, designed to aid in learning. This means taking the elements (has to do with objects) and applying the principles (what you do with the objects) to create a well-designed environment. It includes the five senses: hearing, seeing, smelling, tasting and touching.

Transition Planning: The Essential Extra

But there's more. To ensure that the new design project goes smoothly, especially when implementing the Workshop Rotation Model, Design Directions for Church School, Ltd. includes transition planning as part of our service to you. This is essential to the success of your church's project. It is how you cast the vision within your congregation and ensure the details of this vision are accomplished.

It is a fact of life that change can make people nervous. As your church school goes through its transition, it is possible that some members of your congregation, at first excited about the idea, may begin to question the changes. They may fear losing the traditions they have had, become disappointed, frustrated and even angry. If you go into your transition without a plan, these issues could become a major problem for your church. Design Directions for Church School, Ltd. will give you the building blocks you need to avoid those difficulties. We will prepare ahead of time to make sure the transition goes smoothly for your church and congregation. We will help you with communication and developing new structures and traditions. We will give you tools you will need to develop this education plan within your church. You will have a Strategic Plan to follow!
